Joining port: St. George's, Grenada
Departure port: Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada
Exchange winter's cold for a warm Caribbean breeze

When winter is at its slushy-brown worst in the Northern hemisphere, Picton Castle will be enjoying some of the best tropical trade wind sailing in the world. Join us in the Eastern Caribbean for Leg 4 of the Voyage of the Atlantic.
Beginning in February in the historic port of St. George's, Grenada, island-hop your way through three months of turquoise waters, warm trade winds, secure anchorages and colourful Caribbean culture.
Having sailed in the Eastern Caribbean a number of times, we know where to find all the best pieces of tropical paradise.
Experience culture, coconuts and calypso

St. George's in Grenada and Roseau in Dominica are cities with narrow streets and busy vendors bargaining for coconuts, pineapples, grapefruits, oranges and bananas in bustling marketplaces. Bequia has a laid back atmosphere and a weekly steel drum concert on the beach attended by locals and tourists alike. Martinique's French charm is evident in the combination restaurant-art gallery-tattoo shop-book exchange-internet café that's just down the street from the main pier. And who could forget the white sand beaches, stress-free attitude and famous beach bar Foxy's (including Foxy's own calypso music and delicious barbeques) on Jost Van Dyke in the British Virgin Islands?
Learn to sail off the hook
There are good reasons why so many people sail in the Caribbean. The tropical trade winds blow consistently and anchorages in the lee of the islands are secure. Sailing off the hook (going from being at anchor to being underway without using the engine at all) is thrilling for a cohesive crew who can work together to set sails and brace yards. The Caribbean is also a great place to learn small boat handling as the ship will anchor in most ports and there will be plenty of opportunity to make skiff runs between ship and shore.
Make the triumphant return to Lunenburg
The Picton Castle will return to her home port of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia to a warm welcome at the end of May 2009. The people of this seafaring town are always glad to see their ship return and turn out in droves on the wharf to witness the event. The experience of sailing around Battery Point and into the harbour, of being welcomed home as a crew member and seafarer even if you've never been to Lunenburg before is truly magical.
