We're looking for a doctor!
Because of a last-minute cancellation, Picton Castle needs a ship's medical officer from December 1, 2014 until March 20, 2015. You would join the ship at the French island of Reunion in the Indian Ocean and sail to Mozambique, around the Cape of Good Hope to South Africa, then to St. Helena and Dakar, signing off at the Cape Verde islands in the Atlantic.
You must be a medical doctor, from any area of practice. You should have an interest in seafaring, an adventurous spirit, resourcefulness and the ability to work as part of a team.
The medical officer aboard Picton Castle is supported by the professional crew, who are all trained in marine first aid, as well as a service we subscribe to ashore that provides access to other doctors with experience in remote medicine. The ship's medical kit is well-stocked and up to date.
Your primary role is to provide medical care for our crew. When you're not caring for the crew, you get to participate fully in life aboard as a trainee sailor.
In exchange for your medical expertise, we waive the trainee fee for you. You are still responsible for your own travel to and from the ship and for your own travel health insurance coverage.
